Courses

We will be offering more courses this year with the introduction of RYA windsurfing improver courses and the dinghy sailing RYA Level 3 course. We are already getting lots of enquiries and beginning to take bookings.

Book your course early to avoid dissapointment.

Community Sports Coach

Since joining us in November Dave has been working very hard visiting schools. This means we will have new members and some old members returning so we can look forward to a busy season this year with our youth groups.

Don't forget you can now book session for Windsurfing as well as Sailing - so why not give it a go?

Although we have snow at the moment, the season will be upon us soon, so make sure you book your sailing sessions early so that you don't miss out.

January 2010 Happy New year to all. The weather is proving to be a little challenging. The bases have been laid for the new building on the island, the wood has been delivered and transported out there. The roof delivery has now been postponed twice due to the weather.

We have not yet moved into the new building as the licence has not yet been agreed. Hopefully that will happen soon.

The lake is currently frozen so it is unlikely that we will get afloat for our first session back for winter training. But lets hope it will warm up soon so that we can get back out there.

Looking forward

Open Day 2010

Don't forget our OPEN DAY on the 8th of May 2010, 11am till 4pm. Come down with the family and friends - have lots of fun and find out if we have any special offers.

See you there.

December 2009 Staff training is going well we have had an excellent turnout each week, with an average of 17 volunteers venturing onto the water each Saturday. We had a great Christmas social on the 19 with 32 of you braving the weather to join us. Thank you to Matt and Wendy for organizing the quiz and to Rupert and family for the banquet. Congratulations go to Henry B for mast helpful instructor, Jamie W for most improved instructor, Stuart C for most helpful assistant instructor and Henry L for most improved assistant instructor.

November 2009work has started on the building for storage of windsurfing equipment on the island. The intermediate windsurfing equipment is on order. The new low level pontoon and the 2 Xenons are also on order.

October 2009 BSC have been working extremley hard on the new joint building and it is looking really good. There will be an official opening on 14th November please feel free to come down for that. Sir John Madejski has kindly agreed to come down at 2pm to open it for us.

Interviews for the staff training took place and we have 9 new students joining us this winter.

We had a generous donation from the Kapila Memorial fund of £3000 GBP earlier this summer. The money has been spent on a new mobile pontoon which has been very popular to run courses from this summer. The remaining money has been put towards a replacement Laser 2000 which will be named Winterberry.

September 2009 Alistair has ben holding the fort for 2 weeks whilst Jean has been on holiday, sailing and windsurfing in Minorca - lucky devil. Sadly this is Ali's last month as he is leaving to pasture new. Interveiws have taken place and hopefully we will have a replacement starting soon.

Lots of you have returned for the autumn sailing for those of you who have booked Ali he should be able to continue helping until end of October.

August 2009 All the schools have now finished and the courses are in full swing. The wind has generally been kind with ideal conditions most days. Windsurfing is definatley on the up with many of you coming down to give it a go. Jean has now qualified as an Intermediate nstructor so we will work towards running courses to a higher level for 2010.

July 2009 Many school are rapidly heading towards the summer holiday with some already finished, we have had a very busy term with lots of you achieveing RYA certificates. The summer courses have started so we will see some you you down here again or back in September.
June 2009 Saw lots of members down with their schools, scouts etc all coming for regular weekly visits. We also had some groups coming down for activity session - Shaw-cum-Donnington, Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet, Denefield, John Madejski Academy, Parkwood Leisure and Bradfield Club Peckham. Hopefully some or all of those will join us as regular users or come back for a visit next year.

May 2009 Members have enjoyed the first part of the season with mixed wind conditions giving them a variety of sailing. The courses at half term went well all seem to have fun and learn a lot. The Open Day came and went with plenty of visitors to both us and the club. Many people had a go at sailing and windsurfing. Some enjoyed it enough to book on courses.

April 2009 - we welcome Alistair who is taking over from Tom until September. He is a RYA Senior Instructor who has worked with us as a volunteer for many years so many of you will already know him. With the season starting he will soon meet everyone else and will be here to help you all. Also he attended an Advanced Instructor course and passed so well done. The courses went well including 10 people attending the RYA instructor courses and passing.

March 2009 saw Tom leaving us to join the Police force. We all wish him well in his new career and thank him for his efforts at the centre. The schools he has worked with have benefited tremendously and have had a great deal of fun on the water with him.
