A little about us!

a view of the lake (Theale Water)The aim of the Berkshire Sail Training Centre is to improve provisions for local school and youth groups of all abilities. Sessions are tailor made to suit each group. Providing the students are over 8 years old we can teach you to sail, improve existing skills, or just help you get on the water and have some fun.

The activities and courses take place on Theale Water, one of the finest lakes in the Thames Valley. There are over 225 acres of water set amid pleasant countryside, with a wide variety of wildlife sharing the natural resources with sailors. The open expanses of water provide for some exciting sailing. Interesting creeks on the northern and south-western sides of the lake offer opportunities for exploration by water, while character-ful islands offer sheltered sailing when conditions are more brisk.

The Centre boasts a large collection of sailing dinghies to suit many levels of ability and has introduced windsurfing for 2009. The water activities are supplemented by onshore sessions in the two seminar rooms, and students have use of the excellent changing facilities and hot showers of Burghfield Sailing Club, which shares the same site.

Safety is a paramount consideration at all times. Safety boats are in attendance during all water borne activities, buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn by all participants and all sailing takes place under the supervision of a RYA Senior Instructor.aerial view of Burghfield Sailing Club and Berkshire Sail Training Cetnre

The Berkshire Sail Training Centre is a recognized teaching establishment of The Royal Yachting Association and offers training and examination up to Senior Instructor. The centre is also licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority. Each week many school and youth groups make use of the facilities offered by the centre.

We are pleased to announce that from March 2007 BSTC became an OnBoard club. OnBoard is a scheme set up by the RYA to actively introduce more young people into sailing, teach them to sail, and keep the involved in sailing for life. We look forward to a bright future alongside the RYA and OnBoard.

We hope we shall soon have the pleasure of welcoming your group, too.
